Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose the Pro subscription?
The NuTune Pro version unlocks all keys and scales with 100,000 + customizable features. With full access to all scales, octaves, octave placements, rhythms and BPMs, musicians can take their self-guided practice to the next level. .
Why is NuTune unique?
NuTune is the only music application that focuses on building customized scales to pinpoint learning needs. NuTune uses original live sound tones to guide musicians in producing high caliber music scales. Musicians record their scales on their own instruments without the need for digitized keyboards. NuTune offers more than 100k customizable scale choices. NuTune offers default instrument fingering based on NuTune's established criteria that calibrates as musicians change scale selections. NuTune allows musicians and their teachers to customize instrument fingering by instrument type.
How can students and teachers work together with NuTune?
Teachers can build customized scales with instrument fingering and send a url link to their students. The url link allows students to practice the exact scale configuration embedded in the url link that was assigned by the teacher. Students can send their scale recording to teachers and peers. Teachers can use NuTune in their classrooms with the full orchestra or divide students by instrument type to practice scales together. Teachers often assign scales that relate to a composition piece being studied to allow for progress on both the scale and its application to the piece.
What is BPM and why should I care?
BPM stands for beats per minute and is represented by a number. The bigger the number, the more beats there are in a minute while the smaller the number, the fewer beats there are in a minute. Essentially, a higher BPM means you are practicing faster while a lower BPM means you are practicing slower. Oftentimes, when musicians encounter difficult passages they will learn the notes at a slower pace and eventually bring up the speed. This same technique is helpful when learning scales. If you’re having difficulty with a particular scale, try a slower BPM. Once you get the scale at that speed then raise the BPM… maybe by 5 BPM. Keep doing this until you can play the scale at the speed you want.
Is NuTune in the App or Google Play Store?
Yes, NuTune is available in the Android Store. NuTune is launching in the Apple Store in October 2020
If I am using the web version, how do I add the NuTune tile on the home screen of my mobile or tablet?

I don’t know what instrument to choose?
We are firm believers that music serves as an avenue to build bridges and make connections that will last a lifetime. As such, choosing an instrument that resonates with you is important. The NuTune family is happy to help you with this decision. We offer a consultation service via Skype where we spend an hour getting to know you, your personality, and your interests. From there we will make several recommendations for instruments that best suit you. Email us at info@nutunemusic.com to learn more about the process and our rates. We look forward to finding you the right instrument.
What are the flashing notes and clicks before the scale plays?
NuTune gives you 3 starting note clicks to ground you in the tempo, rhythm, and pitch of the scale before you begin your scale in recording mode. This approach prepares you, just like a conductor would count off an orchestra before beginning a piece.
Why can’t I log into my account on a different device?
Make sure the NuTune application is logged out and closed on all other devices before opening the application on a different device. You cannot use the same NuTune account on multiple devices at the same time.
Why am I directed to upgrade, when I am using a feature in my subscription?
Wait a bit for the application to load. You will know when the application is fully loaded when all toolbar icons turn a solid blue color rather than a faded blue. This signifies that all 100,000 + options are ready to go.
Why does an In-App purchase pop up appear when I select grayed out functions?
You are being offered to sign up for the Pro version because you selected a feature that is only available in the NuTune Pro subscription option. If you would like to use that feature, please subscribe.

How do I download my recordings?
Click the My Recordings tab and select to download either the .mp3 or .ogg format. Once selected, click the download button to listen to your recordings.
What is the difference between a .ogg file vs .mp3 file and why should I use one over the other?
The .mp3 files can be played directly in your browser. If you would like to physically download recordings to your device, switch to .ogg. Downloading your recording as a .ogg file gives you the capability to send your recording to a teacher, friend, family member, or anyone at all. This can be especially helpful for those who are using NuTune as part of a class or independent teaching program
I can’t download my recordings
It is likely that your device does not have a media player. We recommend VLC media player.
Why can’t I hear the app play while I’m recording on my iOS device?
Due to iOS hardware, the microphones get confused between the app sound and your recording. On iOS, you are able to record yourself only. Switch to your laptop or desktop or Android device to record your playing along with the apps perfected sounds.
Can I use an external speaker or headphones?
Yes. Just make sure that you are using an AUX cord that plugs into your device. Using Bluetooth will make it difficult to assess tempo as there is latency during wireless playback.
What happens if my app times out?
No worries, just refresh the page or close your tab and you can log right back in and get practicing again!
Can I make a suggestion to improve NuTune?
Our aim is to help musicians master scales and enjoy the learning process. We welcome feedback to improve NuTune to ensure the best learning experience. Please send your feedback through the "Feedback" selection option in the top toolbar of the NuTune application.
What is the difference between total time, recording time, and play time on the “My Stats” page?
Total Time is the time a particular setting is open and logged. Whether you’re practicing with the application or looking at the scale to study it, the time is being recorded. Recording Time is only the amount of time spent actively recording a scale. Play Time measures the time it takes you to play a scale (not including the record feature).
Why is the bottom toolbar in NuTune My Recordings not visible?
This generally only occurs in the Safari browser. First, update to the most recent version of Safari. Then, turn off the Safari bottom browser by following these step-by step instructions at https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/hide-the-toolbar-in-safari/
Why is there a red record icon in the URL or on the tab/window?
The red icon in the URL symbolizes that the user has granted recording permission to the web browser; it does not indicate that recording is activated. Recording is only active when a user is in the NuTune My Practice feature and selects the record icon.
Will my settings save?
The Pro version allows you to save your settings. So, your saved settings are available at your next login.
